Do You Have To Let Contractors Use Your Bathroom
Rant regarding contractors & use of house bathroom...

Hey any of you out there get annoyed when contractors come to either give a bid or do some work and the first thing they ask is if they can use the bathroom? Personally I think its unprofessional. However, I have never declined anyone from using the bathroom.
Had a bunch of renovation done over the past year on the new house and didn't mind it so much then because everything was tore up. Now, it's all finished but have stuff here and there to get done. Just surprised how so many contractors show up with a full bladder to a job. Wtf???
Take a leak before you come to my house- that's what McDonalds is for. I don't want to have to clean up your mess. Hired a painter, electrician/handyman, and now recently the cable guy in the last month. First thing each of them asked is if they could use the bathroom.
Not like any of them were here for more than 90 minutes either. If you are going to use a homeowners bathroom, don't tinkle when you sprinkle- if you do, clean it up dammit!
EDIT: Clearly some reading comprehension issues for some folks here: NEVER has anyone been declined the use of the bathrooms. Simply stated its unprofessional to one, show up and first thing have to do it; second to make a mess and not clean up after yourself.

We used to have Orkin come out and spray, and my wife told me the guy pooped in our basement toilet.

I just had three guys out at my house last week to install a new furnace.
They were there from 8:30 until around 3:00.
Not only did none of the three ever use the bathroom during that time, they didn't even stop for lunch or anything. I was pretty impressed... Getting the job finished was their only priority.

I work with a bunch of contractors for my job. What would you rather them do use your bathroom or take a shit or piss in a box in your garage? They are going to go at your house one way or another.

I don't mind, but my Vietnamese wife isn't a fan of the practice. That's because soon after moving in, one of the hires dropped a 9 a.m. deuce that made the whole house smell for the rest of morning.

How pretentious can you be? Who cares if they use the bathroom? They're people too, have some respect!

Oh yes, I did not realize they were human-ooops! First off, you are coming for a job and I am hardly a pretentious person. Always treat the guys with respect, offer them some sort of beverages, etc.
I am annoyed that the FIRST thing when showing up is using the bathroom. Be ready to start the job- not have to piss on the site. I think it is unprofessional to show up like that.
Not only that, but to make a mess and not even clean it up. That is the annoying part.
We have a cleaning lady that comes once a month and she was annoyed that the first thing the guy did was show up and use the bathroom.
Kind of comical from some of the reactions that you guys think its ok to show up to a job and not take care of your bodily functions before you get there. Don't necessarily have an issue when during the course of the work have to use the restroom, but first thing just isn't professional.

Matter of fact I do and am very considerate to every contractor that I hire. We are pretty well liked by the regular people that we use (landscaping, snow plowing, etc...)
Our lawn maintenance guys take care of 8 other homes in our neighborhood- they thank me because we are the only ones that always come out to offer drinks to them. And actually leave our garage open to them with an open invite to come and grab a drink whenever needed.
Hey like my point was with the post, I just find it unprofessional to show up first thing to a homeowners. Take care of your business before you get there. Just my opinion.

I had my furnace replaced a couple years ago and had the same experience, which I appreciated. You can definitely tell the difference between people who get paid by the hour, and those who rely on referrals for new jobs.
I have some friends that had their kitchen remodeled, which took forever. They called one of the guys the Mad Crapper, because he would stealthily sneak off and clog a toilet, and then just leave the turd there. There's not a chance in hell I'm unclogging someone else's turd from MY toilet. Not a chance.

So you push these beverages on the workers all day and then forbid them from using the bathroom. What kind of sick twister monster are you Spartan89??

Never said I dont let anyone use the bathrooms. I have never declined anyone. Just find it annoying FIRST thing and also making a mess and not cleaning up. (the sanitizing wipes are visual and available nearby).

As I also stated, she was pretty annoyed by the guy.

When people come to my office for meetings, I refuse to let them use the bathroom too.
Hi, welcome. Can I get you anything? Coffee, Tea, Water, Pop?
No, you can't use the damn restroom. It didn't occur to you to stop at a McDonalds along the way?! I think we're done here. GTFO. -

As a gentleman/scholar that happens to be afflicted with Crohn's disease, I can maybe shed some light on this for you. Crohn's sufferers are naturally predisposed to trades and manual labor. You sir, are a monster, and you shouldn't pass judgment on these men and their inflamed colons without knowing the full context of the situation
